The Little Boy That Was Never Told No

He was born in the spring, and like most babies are,

He was moved about a hospital, then brought home in a car.

As an average little baby, he would often cry and fuss,

He wanted food, a clean diaper and a parent he could trust.

But his parents were too busy for a list of tasks like that,

They had a company to keep afloat and finances to track.

So this vocal little baby was sent into others’ care,

Where he learned that if he cried loud enough, what he wanted would be there.

“FOOD” he would scream, as hard as his little lungs would allow,

He was more than full already, but that wouldn’t stop him now.

“Well I shouldn’t”, said the nanny, “and I couldn’t”, said the maid,

But they feared that if he became unhappy, their salaries would not be paid.

So the boy continued eating, and he was lazy as a cat,

But luckily, he was sent off to school before he got really fat.

At school he was a bully and he always got his way,

The other kids wanted to stop him, but then he wouldn’t let them play.

He would taunt them, and would dare them, being ever so mean,

And the teachers wanted to stop him, but his parents knew the dean.

“We mustn’t say much”, said the principal, “we’ll hold our tongues”, said Mrs. S,

So he reigned over the hallways, and let others clean his mess.

When he grew up, his father gave him money to start an honest job,

But instead he invested in seedy industries that were tied back to the mob.

“Someone stop him”, said his siblings, “it’s a disgrace”, confessed a friend,

But he swindled and he schemed and had a small fortune in the end.

Although despised by many, some did envy his success,

And he made a name of cheating others, and trading money for distress.

And many, many years later, this boy that had never been denied,

Was a man with unlimited power, and only yes-men by his side.

And with nothing else to satisfy his need for challenge and debate,

He said the craziest thing possible: “I will run for the president of the USA”.

“He’s a joke”, said his successor and the t.v. swore “he’ll be rejected”,

But to everyone’s surprise, when the votes were in, he was elected.

He led a brutal office, full of firings and jobs rearranged,

Out of fear, he remained supported, even though he was deranged.

He pulled money from those who needed it, and gave himself much more,

He stalled the entire government and punished the country’s poor.

There were whispers, ever so quiet that through his crimes towards his fellow man,

He was never truly happy and he never had a plan.

So when he looked outside his office window, to see protestors yelling loud,

His power to turn them down, was alone what made him proud.

Because the rest of his life was quite empty, like a play or a t.v. show,

Of which the goal was to find that special someone to return the favour, and tell him “no”.
